The match three winners were Leah Carty of Ballymitty, Barry Power of Tintern, Justin Egan of Boley and Catherine Rossiter of Gusserane. The jackpot remains at €20,000 while the reserve jackpot rises to €3,800.
Gusserane GAA
The Gusserane hurlers find themselves in a county final for the first time since 2020 where they will face Adamstown in the Intermediate A final. Gusserane won this competition back in August of that year when only a handful of supporters could be present due to Covid restrictions.
Hopefully they can repeat that feat on Saturday with victory over the neighbours. No doubt a huge number of supporters will be in Wexford Park this time to roar them on. Throw in is at 1pm.
Breakfast Morning - Gusserane GAA club hosted their pre-final Breakfast Morning in the Parish Hall in Ballycullane last Saturday. The hard working volunteers were busy all morning cooking and serving breakfasts to the huge attendance that supported the event over the three hours plus.
All donations go towards the club’s involvement in the upcoming intermediate A hurling final. The club would like to thank all who volunteered, those that sponsored food and those that supported the event.
Ladies Football
Well done to both the Gusserane senior and junior ladies football teams who avoided relegation last weekend. The seniors saw off St Martins on Saturday night while the juniors narrowly defeated Cuain Banú on Sunday morning. Both teams thus maintain their status for 2027. The LGFA club’s annual general meeting is scheduled for Sunday 8th November at 8pm and all interested in the future of ladies football in Gusserane are urged to attend.
St Kearns Commemoration
The annual St Kearns Commemoration took place at the monument in glorious sunshine on Sunday last. The commemoration takes place each year to remember the sacrifice made by young men from our locality in their fight for Irish freedom just over one hundred years ago. Five volunteers died in the explosion while manufacturing explosives during the War of Independence.
Chairperson, Michael Whelan, officiated at the commemoration and Fr Jim Doyle PP recited the Rosary. A special plaque was unveiled this year marking the year of passing and final resting place of each of the men that were in the house that fateful night. A large crowd was in attendance to mark the occasion.
