President Donald Trump on Monday said he is looking at firing U.S. ambassador to Greece, Kimberly Guilfoyle, amid allegations she demanded $100,000 from a political donor in exchange for access to the White House.
“Well, we’re looking at it,” Mr Trump told reporters at the White House on Monday when asked whether he was considering firing Ms Guilfoyle over allegations that she demanded $100,000 from a donor to pay her personal credit card bill.
Mr Trump expressed displeasure with Ms Guilfoyle’s conduct, which the Wall Street Journal first reported.
“Yeah, we’re not happy,” Mr Trump said.
Ms Guilfoyle has come under fire after reports that she requested money from a political donor, promising favour from Mr Trump’s administration in return.
Eric Deters, a Trump donor, exposed Ms Guilfoyle asking him to pay her outstanding $100,000 American Express bill before her 2025 Senate confirmation hearing.
“She was so desperate for that $100,000. It was a quid pro quo,” Mr Deters said in an interview with NBC News last week. “She said I could ask her for anything and everything in Trump world. There was no request too big.”
However, Ms Guilfoyle’s attorney has denied the allegations.
