KUALA LUMPUR: Syarikat Jaminan Pembiayaan Perniagaan Bhd (SJPP) has facilitated RM123.81 billion in financing approvals for Malaysian businesses since 2009, reflecting continued demand for funding support among enterprises.
As at Aug 31 this year, the cumulative approvals under its current government guarantee schemes involved 148,795 accounts and 90,503 borrowers.
For the January-August 2026 period, SJPP approved RM7.46 billion in financing involving 10,240 accounts.
SJPP principal officer Juanita Rusmini Abdul Jalil said the schemes were designed to facilitate access to financing for eligible businesses through participating financial institutions (FIs).
"These figures indicate continued financing demand among Malaysian businesses. SJPP's role is to administer government guarantee allocations and work with participating financial institutions to facilitate access to financing," she said.
The financing can support working capital, capital expenditure and business expansion.
Under the Government Guarantee Scheme Madani 2026 (GGSM4), eligible businesses can access facilities ranging from term loans and revolving credit to hire purchase, trade financing and bank guarantees, subject to scheme conditions and lenders' assessments.
Eligible small and medium enterprises (SMEs) can obtain financing of up to RM20 million per company under GGSM4, while eligible mid-tier companies can access up to RM30 million.
"The inclusion of eligible mid-tier companies recognises that financing requirements can become larger and more complex as businesses scale up," Juanita said.
GGSM4 makes RM30 billion available across economic sectors, with targeted focus areas covering Bumiputera businesses, halal, tourism, high-growth high-value sectors and export-oriented mid-tier companies.
Wholesale and retail trade, restaurants and hotels accounted for 44.8 per cent of cumulative sector-based financing approvals as at Aug 31.
This was followed by manufacturing, including agro-based activities, at 17.1 per cent.
Construction contributed 13.2 per cent, while finance, insurance, real estate and business activities accounted for 12.3 per cent.
Together, the four sectors represented about 87 per cent of approvals by sector.
SJPP is also streamlining guarantee processing through its Self-Approved Arrangement (SAA), which allows participating FIs to process eligible guarantee applications within predetermined limits and parameters.
In August, SJPP approved 1,798 applications, its second-highest monthly number for the year up to that point.
Financing approvals reached RM1.35 billion, the highest monthly amount recorded from January to August.
About 64 per cent of August approvals were processed through SAA, with an average processing time of one working day.
"Speed and efficiency matter when businesses need financing for working capital or investment.
"Our processes aim to shorten the processing journey for eligible applications while maintaining governance and eligibility requirements," Juanita said.
She added that financing approvals were only one measure of impact, with the broader objective being to help eligible businesses sustain operations, invest and grow.
Verified post-financing data and beneficiary case studies could provide a clearer picture of the schemes' outcomes.
