KARACHI: Mir Raza Ali’s father, Mir Hussain, has welcomed the judicial commission’s recommendation to form a joint investigation team (JIT), saying his family had been demanding a JIT since the first day of the case, ARY News reported.
Mir Hussain thanked Sindh Chief Minister and Faryal Talpur, as well as the judge who headed the judicial commission, for the report.
He said the report had recommended the formation of a JIT and discussed the possibility of murder in the case. He added that the family had also submitted names for the proposed investigation team.
Mir Hussain said the judicial commission’s findings had brought police negligence to light and called for an investigation into the officers identified in the report.
He said the Sindh chief minister and a four-member cabinet committee would also take action on the report’s recommendations.
“We are not talking about what has been happening in Karachi for the past 70 to 75 years,” Mir Hussain said.
He added that the family’s protest would continue and that it would decide its future course of action once the JIT was officially announced.
Earlier, Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar said a special committee formed by the chief minister has begun reviewing recommendations made by the judicial commission investigating the Mir Raza Ali case.
Speaking to ARY News, Lanjar said the committee held its first meeting today, during which the judicial commission’s report was presented. Copies of the report were provided to all members of the subcommittee, he added.
The provincial home minister said police officers would face inquiries in line with the judicial commission’s recommendations, while officers found responsible for negligence and administrative incompetence would be suspended.
He further said a joint investigation team (JIT) would be formed on the judicial commission’s recommendation, provided there were no legal obstacles.
Lanjar said the committee would meet again to decide on the recommendations contained in the report.
