Welcome back, NBA regular season – time to get your Oscar ballots ready.
Early in the second quarter of the Oklahoma City Thunder’s game against the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday, a nice little team scuffle went down after Spurs guard De’Aaron Fox and OKC center Chet Holmgren got all tangled up and the big fell to the ground in a Meryl Streep sort of way.
At least according to Fox.
“I just tried to take a foul,” Fox said, according to the San Antonio Express-News. “I don’t think I’m that strong. Somebody grabs you like that and you’re flying on the floor like that, you got other problems to worry about. I didn’t throw him to the ground that hard, I promise you.”
Either Simone Biles would be proud of Holmgren, or the Hulk would be proud of Fox, who knows.
Holmgren’s landing led to a tussle between Victor Wembanyama and Jaylin Williams and coaches had to step in. Wembanyama and Williams received technical fouls along with Jalen Williams and Kenrich Williams. Fox was hit with a flagrant 1 foul.
The Thunder ended up winning 116-104.
“At the end of the day, I’m going to keep moving, but I appreciate my teammates having my back,” Holmgren said of the Fox incident, the San Antonio Express-News reported. “I’m not necessarily sure how we exactly got three technicals for a reaction to something else. I don’t totally understand that.
“But at the end of the day, I feel like anything you’re not willing to reciprocate is an advantage for the other team. So if they want to play physical, we have to match that, and the refs are going to do their job in keeping that within the guidelines.”
