KUALA LUMPUR: The government is confident it can fund the RM510 billion expenditure under the 2027 Budget without introducing new taxes, says Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan.
He said the government was prioritising better governance to curb leakages and wastage, and improve the efficiency of public spending.
"The government's approach is to ensure that what we spend is money well spent to improve the country's economy and for the people's benefit.
"When we have focus and carry out our responsibilities well, the government and the country will be more successful in the future," he said on RTM 1's Bicara Naratif programme today.
The programme was titled 'Budget 2027: Reaching For The Skies, While Anchored on Our Values'.
Amir Hamzah said Malaysia's strengthening economic data reflected foreign investors' confidence in the country, which could help generate national income.
"But the most important thing is ensuring that when the revenue is there, we spend wisely, we close the gaps for any leakages that occur, and we increase the returns we get more efficiently in government expenditure, and this will be tied to the introduction of several new laws," he said.
