PENDANG: A total of 23 houses in four villages here were affected by a storm, strong winds, and flash floods following heavy rain yesterday evening.
Pendang Civil Defence officer Yuslina Yusoff said the first report was received at 5.30pm before six Malaysian Civil Defence Force personnel were dispatched to the affected areas.
She said strong winds damaged the roofs of four houses in Kampung Bukit Pak Pom and three in Kampung Lahar Tunjang.
"The incident also caused several trees to fall, blocking the main road. However, no injuries or fatalities were reported," she said when contacted.
Meanwhile, Yuslina said flash floods affected 16 houses in two other villages, involving 13 homes in Kampung Baru, Mukim Padang Peliang, and three in Kampung Titi Akar, Mukim Padang Kerbau.
She said the flash floods were triggered by heavy rain in hilly areas at 5pm, sending fast-flowing water spilling into low-lying areas.
"The overflow also caused the main road to be inundated at 6.10pm. However, the water level trend shows a slow decline and the situation remains under control at this time," she said.
"Civil Defence Force personnel are at the location to monitor the situation, gather information, and advise at-risk residents to be ready to evacuate should conditions worsen."
She also reminded residents in high-risk areas to remain alert to weather changes and prioritise family safety throughout the rainy season.
