The ceremony was held at the Uganda Military Academy in Kabamba, Mubende District, marking a milestone for a family whose military legacy stretches back decades.
Ruhamya, 22, is the son of UPDF Chief of Defence Forces General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who himself graduated from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in 2000.
Ruhamya completed the same prestigious 44-week Officer Commissioning Course at Sandhurst in August 2026 before returning to Uganda for Tuesday's official commissioning.

How Museveni celebrated the achievement
Ruhamya's military journey began in June 2025, when he enlisted in the UPDF as a Private and briefly served in the elite Special Forces Command before heading to the UK for officer training.
At Sandhurst, he trained alongside fellow Ugandan cadet Andrew Bakira Ruyondo, who claimed the International Sword award for the best overseas cadet — a notable achievement for Uganda's contingent.
Speaking at the ceremony, President Museveni used the platform to address both the graduating officers and the wider state of the military.
He acknowledged efforts by the Chief of Defence Forces and his commanders to improve soldiers' welfare and crack down on corruption within the ranks.
"I particularly thank the CDF and his commanders for fighting corruption in the army and improving the welfare of our soldiers. I am following the improvements in barracks and pay, but the fight against corruption is especially important because it directly affects the welfare of our men and women in uniform," Museveni wrote in an X post shared after the event.
He also directed a pointed message at the newly commissioned officers:
"To the new officers, remain disciplined, stay close to the people and serve Uganda with honour."
