An independent member of Serbia’s electronic media regulator (REM) said independent members are boycotting a closed meeting called by the regulator’s top official.
Rodoljub Sabic, a member of the REM Council (the regulator’s governing body) said Council chair Stevica Smederevac called a closed session after he criticized him in an X post.
Sabic accused Smederevac of preventing REM action against pro-regime media outlets during the election campaign. He said previous votes blocked the inclusion of TV Informer in REM's election monitoring and prevented proceedings against Informer and other pro-regime outlets, despite recommendations from the regulator's professional staff.
He said the Council was split 4-4 and accused government-aligned members of using the deadlock to prevent enforcement of media laws.
