The Lotte Samdong Welfare Foundation has delivered gift sets worth 200 million won (about $140,000) to older residents of Ulsan to mark Seniors' Day.
The foundation said on Oct. 12 that it held the 2026 Shin Kyuk-ho Lotte Filial Devotion Celebration ceremony the previous day at Eonyang Middle School in Ulju County, Ulsan. The program provides gift sets for senior gatherings in a continuation of the gratitude that the late Shin Kyuk-ho, founder and honorary chairman of Lotte Group, felt toward older residents of Ulsan, his hometown. It began in Ulju County in 2011 and expanded across all of Ulsan in 2024. Through this year, the foundation has delivered gift sets worth 2.5 billion won to 170,000 older adults.
Working with Ulsan's five districts and counties, the foundation this year delivered gift sets of household necessities to 25,000 older residents. Recipients were selected in consultation with each local government, with priority given to marginalized groups. The foundation also held the 2026 Shin Kyuk-ho Lotte Senior Center Support ceremony on the same day. It provided 25 million won in operating funds, covering heating and cooling costs, utility bills and food expenses, to 18 unregistered senior centers in Ulju County that do not receive government support.
Attendees included foundation Chairwoman Chang Hye-sun, Ulju County Mayor Lee Soon-geol and National Assembly member Seo Beom-soo, who represents Ulju County. In opening remarks, Chang said, "Carrying on my grandfather's affection for his hometown, we will steadily continue work that can be a small source of strength in the daily lives of older residents in Ulsan."
