PETALING JAYA: Two sisters died after being trapped in a fire that destroyed two adjoining houses at Kampung Koh in Sitiawan, Perak, today.
Perak fire and rescue department director Sayani Saidon said his team received information about the incident at 9am. Personnel from the Sitiawan and Seri Manjung fire stations were deployed to the scene.
"Two girls aged 18 and 15 were trapped in their home. Both were confirmed dead," he was reported as saying by Utusan Malaysia.
The two-storey, semi-detached houses measuring 40ft by 70ft each were mostly destroyed by the blaze.
Saidon said the fire also damaged four vehicles: two Proton Sagas, a Proton Perdana and a motorcycle.
He said the fire was contained at 10.30am and checks were made to eliminate any remaining embers or other flammable materials that could reignite the blaze.
A total of 20 personnel, including members of the Pantai Remis volunteer fire brigade, took part in the operation, while the K9 unit assisted with the investigation.
