Indian Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has expressed a desire to visit Lahore from November 27 to 29 to attend the 4th International Punjabi Conference, and has questioned whether the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would allow him to visit Pakistan.
Speaking in the Punjab Assembly, Mann said he had received an invitation from Pakistani Punjabi poet Baba Najmi, adding that people on both sides of the border shared common roots, culture and problems.
Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan supported the proposal, urging Mann to take fellow lawmakers along if his visit was approved.
Mann also called for reopening the Kartarpur Corridor, which India suspended indefinitely on May 7, 2025, following the Pahalgam attack and subsequent military escalation between Pakistan and India.
The two nuclear-armed neighbours reached a US-brokered ceasefire on May 10, 2025, ending the conflict.
