The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, NMDPRA, and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPC Ltd, have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration to address operational challenges and improve efficiency in Nigeria’s petroleum industry.
The Authority Chief Executive of NMDPRA, Rabiu Abdullahi Umar, gave the assurance during a meeting with the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd, Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, in Abuja on Thursday.
The meeting focused on areas of mutual interest, including gas development, capacity building, the resolution of operational challenges and measures to improve regulatory efficiency.
Mr Umar said the authority was committed to deepening its strategic relationship with NNPC Ltd to enhance operational performance and support the sustainable growth of Nigeria’s petroleum industry.
The engagement also provided an opportunity for both institutions to discuss ways of addressing challenges affecting their operations and improving coordination between the regulator and the national oil company.
Both leaders stressed the importance of sustained institutional engagement and effective collaboration in tackling industry challenges, improving performance and creating a more efficient and business-friendly petroleum sector.
They also underscored the need for stronger cooperation between the two institutions to support the development of the petroleum industry and improve the effectiveness of regulatory and operational processes.
The renewed commitment comes amid ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, particularly through improved gas development, efficient regulation and better coordination among key industry stakeholders.
The NMDPRA regulates Nigeria’s midstream and downstream petroleum operations, while NNPC Ltd participates in the country’s oil and gas value chain.
The meeting reaffirmed the two institutions’ resolve to pursue a more coordinated approach to addressing industry concerns and advancing the growth of Nigeria’s petroleum sector.
