Immanuel Feyi-Waboso suffered a hamstring concern in Exeter's win over Newcastle Red Bulls
Exeter Chiefs are sweating over the fitness of star winger Immanuel Feyi-Waboso, with the England international set for scans on a potential hamstring injury.
The 23-year-old came off early into the second-half of their win over Newcastle Red Bulls on Sunday, and was seen stretching his hamstring out minutes before his exit.
This will certainly come as a worry for Exeter Chiefs director of rugby, Rob Baxter, with the Devonians heading into a tough block of fixtures with Toulouse, Bristol Bears and Harlequins lined up across the rest of October.
‘He just doesn’t feel right’
The manner of Feyi-Waboso’s departure will also raise concerns, given his recent injury history. The back was absent for the bulk of 2025 through a shoulder injury, before then missing the 2026 Six Nations with a hamstring concern.
He later missed Exeter’s round 18 clash against Saracens and their play-off semi-final against Bath through a fractured jaw, but did return for the final.
“It wasn’t planned,” Baxter explained of Feyi-Waboso’s departure. “He feels like he’s overloaded his hamstring a little bit; I don’t think it’s catastrophic or been a proper twang.
“He carried on after he first reported it; he did a kick-chase, came up with the ball at full speed and chased back, but he just doesn’t feel right. I expect that’ll get scanned and we’ll assess it over the week.”

However, while they now face a nervous wait to see if their star player will be fit for their trip to Toulouse in the opening round of the Investec Champions Cup, Baxter was quick to clarify it doesn’t look like a long-term issue.
“I would say it’s more of a concern than a long-term worry,” he added.
Exeter now head to the Pink City off the back of their first PREM victory of the season, securing a 34-28 win over a spirited Newcastle outfit, and now boast eight points from their opening three games. But, results elsewhere mean they remain eighth in the table.
