Popular Nigerian TikTok star Hamzat Habeeb Adelaja, popularly known as Peller, has revealed that former Anambra State governor Peter Obi approached him for a livestream ahead of the 2027 general election.
Peller made the disclosure during a TikTok livestream on Wednesday, explaining that Obi had expressed interest in appearing on his platform for an online session.
The content creator, however, was quick to clarify that the proposed interaction should not be interpreted as an endorsement of Obi’s presidential ambition or an attempt to influence his followers’ voting decisions.
Peller stressed that his interest was limited to hosting the politician on his platform, insisting that he was not campaigning for any presidential candidate.
“Peter Obi reached out to me that he wants to do a livestream with me. Before you people get the wrong idea, I am not promoting any presidential candidate, and I am not asking you to vote for Peter Obi. I just want to stream with him on my platform,” he said.
The disclosure has drawn attention to the growing intersection between Nigeria’s entertainment industry, social media personalities and political engagement as preparations gradually build towards the 2027 general election.
Livestream not an endorsement, Peller insists
Peller’s clarification appeared aimed at preventing his audience from interpreting the proposed livestream as a declaration of political support for Obi.
By distinguishing between hosting a politician and endorsing a candidate, the TikTok personality maintained that the planned session would be an interaction on his platform rather than a campaign activity.
He did not disclose when the livestream would take place or provide further details about the proposed conversation.
The announcement comes as politicians increasingly explore digital platforms to engage with audiences beyond conventional political rallies, television interviews and other traditional media channels.
Livestreams, in particular, allow public figures to interact with online audiences in a more direct format, while content creators provide access to followers who may not routinely follow conventional political programmes.
Obi also engages TikTok personalities
Obi, who served as governor of Anambra State from 2006 to 2014, has also recently appeared on a livestream hosted by another TikTok personality, Emir Sirdam.
His appearance on the platform reflects the use of social media as an additional channel for political communication and public engagement.
With the 2027 general election approaching, interactions between politicians and online personalities could attract increased attention, particularly among younger Nigerians who consume news and political discussions through digital platforms.
However, Peller’s disclosure does not establish that the proposed livestream has been scheduled or that he has endorsed Obi’s presidential ambition.
The content creator reiterated that his intention was simply to host the former governor on his platform, maintaining a distinction between online interaction and political campaigning.
