Australian star Steve Smith is under a concussion cloud after not returning to the field in the first Test against South Africa.
Smith had an incredible day three in Durban, turning the match with a trio of spectacular catches.
However, day four didn’t go in his favour as he took an Anrich Nortje short ball to the helmet on the way to holing out for 27.
Nortje is the fastest bowler in the contest and recorded the fastest speed of the match on day four at 150.1km/h.
Smith looked fine in the moments after the blow in the first session of play and was cleared to bat on by Australian medical staff.
However, after Australia declared at the end of the second session, having set the home side 421 for victory, all-rounder Michael Neser was seen warming up during the Tea break.
He then took to the field as play resumed, fielding in the gully region. There has been no word from the Australians on Smith.
The 37-year-old also appeared to hurt his finger taking a catch off Beau Webster on Sunday that closed the Proteas’ first innings.
More to come.
