Viktor Gyökeres helped Arsenal win the Premier League in his first season, scoring 21 goals in all competitions. But just a few months into his second campaign, a fresh report claims the Swedish striker is considering leaving the Emirates in January.
Gyökeres arrived from Sporting Lisbon in July 2025 with a formidable goalscoring reputation. However, opportunities have been harder to come by this season, with Kai Havertz preferred to lead Arsenal’s attack.
According to TEAMtalk, the 28-year-old is ready to push for a January departure after failing to start a Premier League match this season. The report also claims Arsenal’s continued pursuit of Julián Álvarez has increased his doubts about where he fits into Mikel Arteta’s plans.
Has Gyökeres changed his mind already?
It would certainly represent quite a turnaround from September, when Gyökeres insisted that staying at Arsenal was never in doubt.
At the time, he said he was extremely happy at the club, although he acknowledged the frustration of limited playing time.
His recent four-goal return for Sweden only makes the situation more intriguing. Clearly, he hasn’t forgotten how to score goals, but finding that same confidence and rhythm at Arsenal has proved difficult.
And with Havertz established as Arteta’s preferred striker, how long will Gyökeres be prepared to wait?

Arsenal could face a difficult January decision
Atlético Madrid are reportedly among the clubs interested, although there is a considerable difference between interest and an actual transfer.
The possibility of January becoming Arsenal’s best opportunity to sell Gyökeres has already prompted debate among supporters.
However, Arsenal would also need to consider the consequences of losing an experienced striker halfway through a demanding season.
For now, there has been no public confirmation from Gyökeres or Arsenal that he wants to leave. But if his opportunities remain limited, the speculation is unlikely to disappear.
Should Arteta give Gyökeres a proper run of starts before January, or would a move away be best for everyone? Join the discussion in the comments below.
