Inspector Kenneth Kipkemboi Sang was taken into custody by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Headquarters, acting on intelligence that pointed them to Uasin Gishu County. The breakthrough came along Uganda Road in the heart of Eldoret's Central Business District.
Officers intercepted Sang while he was behind the wheel of a silver Toyota Fielder, registration number KCM 508L. According to investigators, he was in the middle of negotiating the sale of the vehicle to sustain himself financially while in hiding.
Sang was subsequently taken to Eldoret Police Station, where he was processed ahead of arraignment in court.
The DCI confirmed that detectives are now pursuing additional leads to piece together the full circumstances of both killings and to establish whether any other individuals were involved in the crimes.
In a statement, the DCI said:
"The DCI remains resolute in its pursuit of justice for the victims and their families. No rank, status or affiliation places anyone above the law. Detectives will continue following every credible lead to ensure that all those involved are brought before the courts to face their charges."
The murders of Mbobu, a prominent member of the legal fraternity, and Dr. Mutiso had attracted significant public attention. Sang's arrest signals a decisive step forward in both investigations, with authorities now working to build a comprehensive picture of the events that led to the two deaths.
