Netflix is facing another major leadership change as film division head Dan Lin prepares to leave after nearly three years. His departure comes just days after content chief Bela Bajaria also exited the company. The back-to-back changes have drawn attention to the challenges facing the streaming giant.
Lin played a key role in Netflix’s film business during his tenure. One of the notable successes under his leadership was KPop Demon Hunters, which attracted audiences and won an Academy Award. Before joining Netflix, Lin worked at Warner Bros. Pictures and helped produce films such as Sherlock Holmes and The Lego Movie.

Meanwhile, Netflix is dealing with wider business pressures beyond its leadership changes. The company cut around 1,000 jobs last week, marking its biggest round of layoffs since 2022. It is also facing growing competition from YouTube, where viewers continue to spend more time watching videos.
Furthermore, some Netflix shows have struggled to maintain their audiences in their second seasons. The company’s stock has also fallen by 23% since the start of 2026, adding to concerns about its performance. These challenges have increased pressure on the streaming platform as it reviews its leadership and business priorities.

Former Disney executive Peter Rice will oversee Netflix’s film division until the company appoints a permanent successor to Lin. Rice is also set to replace Bajaria, with his new role beginning on October 26. His appointment comes at a crucial time as Netflix navigates leadership transitions, job cuts and intensifying competition in the streaming market.
