The Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals have developed a rivalry with consequences that often extend well beyond one Sunday afternoon's score. Their recent battles have shaped the AFC North race, and with both teams coming off very different circumstances entering Week 7, another meeting will matter for the division's balance of power.
Baltimore returns to M&T Bank Stadium after a disappointing 13-10 loss to the Cleveland Browns, while Cincinnati comes off its bye week looking to improve its position in a competitive division. The Bengals have enough talent to make this a tough afternoon for the home team, but beyond the immediate result, several storylines add weight to this matchup. From a familiar Baltimore advantage to the broader fight for AFC North supremacy, Sunday's game could add another meaningful chapter to this rivalry.
Can Derrick Henry find some home magic against Cincinnati?
The Ravens have enjoyed considerable success against Cincinnati at home, winning six of the past eight meetings overall and holding a 20-10 record against the Bengals in Baltimore. Derrick Henry has added another dimension to the matchup since arriving in Baltimore, bringing a powerful rushing presence that can change the way defenses approach the Ravens' offense.
Henry has scored a rushing touchdown in three of his four games against Cincinnati since joining the Ravens. In the one game he didn't reach the end zone, he was exceptionally efficient, rushing for 100 yards on 11 carries for 9.1 yards per attempt. That performance illustrates how he can influence a game even without scoring.
Baltimore needs its running game to become a source of stability after the offensive struggles in Cleveland. If Henry finds room early, the Ravens could build a more balanced attack and make life harder for Cincinnati's defense. His previous success against the Bengals gives the home crowd another reason to watch closely.
Derrick Henry has another milestone within reach
Henry's place in NFL history keeps growing, and Sunday's matchup could bring another significant moment. He needs 111 rushing yards to pass Jerome Bettis for eighth on the NFL's all-time rushing list, putting a milestone within reach if he finds the running lanes that have defined some of his best performances.
Reaching that mark would add another accomplishment to Henry's remarkable career and give Baltimore another reason to keep feeding him the football. The Ravens cannot force the issue just to chase a personal milestone (and they won't), especially against a Cincinnati defense ready to challenge their ground game. However, if Henry gets into a rhythm, the pursuit of Bettis could become a compelling subplot to an important divisional matchup.
Neither team wants to fall to 0-2 in the AFC North
The AFC North remains tightly contested, making every divisional result especially important. Cincinnati has already lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers, while Baltimore's Week 6 defeat came against Cleveland. Another loss would leave either team at 0-2 against AFC North opponents, creating an early obstacle in a race where head-to-head results can have significant consequences.
The Ravens cannot afford to treat Sunday's matchup as an ordinary game on the schedule. A home win would let them respond to the Cleveland loss and avoid digging a deeper hole in the divisional standings. For Cincinnati, the opportunity is equally important: a road victory would give the Bengals a valuable divisional result and put them in a stronger position as the season develops.
With the Browns and Steelers also competing near the top of the division, neither team can assume there will be enough opportunities later to make up for missed chances now. A Week 7 win wouldn't decide the AFC North, but the consequences of a loss could linger well beyond Sunday.
The Ravens and Bengals have dominated the AFC North race
The Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals have shaped much of the AFC North's recent history, combining for six division titles from 2018 through 2025. Baltimore won in 2018, 2019, 2023, and 2024, while Cincinnati won back-to-back titles in 2021 and 2022. Lamar Jackson and Joe Burrow helped drive that run of success, establishing their teams as the division's leading contenders during much of that stretch.
The Pittsburgh Steelers interrupted that pattern with division titles in 2020 and 2025, a reminder that neither team can take its place in the standings for granted. Sunday's matchup gives Baltimore and Cincinnati another opportunity to gain ground in a division where their recent history has raised expectations, but the current standings will ultimately determine who controls the race.
