The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has projects across Abuja will boost support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
Mr Wike, who spoke during an interview with journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, said the administration’s achievements in infrastructure development, security and engagement with traditional rulers and other stakeholders would strengthen its political support.
“It’s not about the candidates; it’s about the style of governance and administration as it regards the FCT,” Mr Wike said.
He said regular consultations with traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders were essential, adding that the approach had not received sufficient attention in previous administrations.
The minister maintained that his administration’s development agenda extended beyond Abuja’s city centre to communities on the outskirts of the capital.
He also announced plans to inaugurate at least 10 projects before the end of December, including roads linking Karshi, Kubwa and other communities.
Mr Wike dismissed suggestions that his political mobilisation in the FCT was aimed at securing only the minimum 25 per cent of votes required under Nigeria’s presidential election framework.
“How do you look at me? Coordinator of FCT, and I am looking for 25 per cent? That must be a joke,” he said.
The minister also defended his administration’s handling of issues affecting indigenous communities in the FCT, including traditional institutions and appointments.
He added that on elevated traditional rulers and presentation of staff of office, arrangements were ongoing to represent certificates to the beneficiaries.
He also explained that the government had provided the main infrastructure and access points, but residents would need to arrange connections to their individual property.
