(ANSA) - ROME, 23 OTT - Italy is the first country in Europe to establish a national plan against fentanyl, Premier Giorgia Meloni said Friday.
"Prevention also means knowing how to act before a danger escalates," she told a high-level international meeting on addiction prevention and recovery—hosted by Italy and France, co-founders of the European Coalition Against Drugs (ECAD)—held at the San Patrignano rehabilitation community near Rimini.
"That is why I want to highlight that we were the first in Europe to establish a national plan to combat the misuse of fentanyl and synthetic opioids.
"We have trained personnel, made antidotes available, and today," the Prime Minister added, "we are also strengthening controls over the storage of these substances—particularly in hospitals and healthcare facilities—to ensure they do not end up in illegal channels, where they could turn thousands of people into 'zombies'."
