KUALA LUMPUR: National para-athletics champion Datuk Abdul Latif Romly continued his dominance in the men’s T20 long jump event by defending his gold medal for the fourth consecutive time at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Para Games today.
Competing at the Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium, Abdul Latif recorded a best jump of 7.39 meters (m) to secure the championship title he has held since the 2014 edition in Incheon, South Korea.
The silver medal went to Saudi Arabian athlete Hassan Dawshi with a jump of 7.03m, while host representative Kanta Kokubo claimed the bronze with a mark of 6.98m.
Abdul Latif, the world record holder with a distance of 7.67m, previously won gold at the 2018 edition in Jakarta-Palembang, Indonesia, and the 2022 edition in Hangzhou, China.
Two other national representatives, Eljoe Gotuoh, finished fourth with a jump of 6.91m, while Nik Mohamad Rahmat Mohd Zahari placed seventh with a mark of 6.42m.
Abdul Latif’s success also contributed the national contingent’s third gold medal of the Games, following powerlifting champion Bonnie Bunyau Gustin’s victory in the men’s 72-kilogram category at the Nagoya City Trade & Industry Center earlier today.
