Veteran Nollywood actor Yinka Quadri has explained why he is supporting President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, pointing to the President’s long-standing assistance to entertainment practitioners and infrastructure projects.
Quadri said his support for Tinubu was not motivated by personal gain but by the help the President had extended to members of the entertainment industry, dating back to his tenure as Lagos State governor.
The actor made this known during an appearance on the African A-List interview, where he recalled how Tinubu reportedly paid the medical bills of late comic actor Babatunde Omidina, popularly known as Baba Suwe, during his illness.

“People do not understand it. It is not about what we want to eat. He has been taking care of those of us in the industry since he was the governor of Lagos,” Quadri said.
He also recalled Tinubu’s financial support following the death of actress Moji Olaiya in Canada in 2017, when colleagues were trying to bring her remains back to Nigeria.
Quadri said he visited Tinubu’s Bourdillon residence in Lagos alongside actresses Fathia Balogun, actor Yomi Fabiyi and other colleagues to seek assistance with the cost of repatriating Olaiya’s remains.
“When Moji Olaiya died, I, Fathia Balogun, Yomi Fabiyi and others were trying to bring her back from abroad. We went to Bourdillon to seek financial support.
“He asked us for the cost and paid it. It was a total of $25,000,” he said.
According to Quadri, Tinubu has continued to offer assistance to entertainment practitioners who approach him for help.
The actor also cited road projects in the South-West as another reason for supporting the President’s second-term ambition, mentioning the Papalanto-Sagamu and Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode roads.
Although he acknowledged that more work remained to be done, Quadri said the government’s efforts deserved recognition.
“I know it is not enough, but I praise him,” he said.
Quadri further listed pension payments to retirees and the Nigerian Education Loan Fund as some of the initiatives he considered positive under the Tinubu administration.
