Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Tripti Bhatt, from the 2013 batch, has been appointed Superintendent of Police (SP) in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), marking a new chapter in her career. The Uttarakhand-cadre officer will serve in the central agency on deputation for up to five years, according to reports.
The Union Home Ministry has informed the Uttarakhand government about her appointment through an official communication. The state government has been asked to relieve Bhatt within three weeks of the letter's issuance so that she can take charge of her new assignment.
Her deputation will last five years from the date she assumes charge, or until further orders from the Central government, whichever comes first.
Who Is IPS Officer Tripti Bhatt?
Tripti Bhatt was born on December 6, 1989, and hails from Almora district in Uttarakhand. She completed her BTech in Mechanical Engineering from Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology in Pantnagar.
Bhatt secured the 165th rank nationally in the 2012 UPSC Civil Services Examination and joined the IPS under the Uttarakhand cadre. Her journey to the police service has drawn attention because she reportedly turned down 16 government job offers to pursue her ambition of becoming an IPS officer.
Among the opportunities she declined was an offer from the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). She also reportedly received a selection offer for the post of Assistant Manager at NTPC but chose to continue preparing for the civil services examination.
Her decision to turn down these opportunities reflected her determination to join the police service and fulfil her long-held ambition.
Tripti Bhatt's Career in Uttarakhand
During her service in Uttarakhand, Bhatt held several important responsibilities. Before her appointment to the CBI, she was serving as Additional Secretary in the state's Home and Prisons Department.
She has also served as Superintendent of Police in the Fire Services, among other assignments.
Her appointment to the CBI will take her from her state cadre to a central investigative agency that handles major criminal cases, including corruption and other offences referred to it under the law.
