DAR ES SALAAM: JIHAN Dimack’s historic victory at Miss Grand International 2026 has carried a powerful message to Tanzania and the world that unity can turn a shared dream into reality.
As history was written in Bangkok, Thailand, on Saturday night, the Tanzanian beauty queen’s triumph became more than a personal achievement. It became a moment of collective pride for a nation whose citizens had rallied behind her, transforming a beauty pageant campaign into a shared national mission.
From social media campaigns and voting drives to public gatherings and street mobilisation, Tanzanians from different walks of life joined hands in support of Jihan, whose crowning as the first African winner of Miss Grand International marked a milestone for both the country and the continent.
“First Golden Crown for Tanzania, First Golden Crown for Africa,” Jihan screamed in an emotional reaction that captured the significance of the moment.
Back home, thousands of miles from the glittering stage in Bangkok, the announcement unleashed celebrations among supporters who had followed her journey with anticipation, hoping to see the crown come to Tanzania.
At the Super Dome in Dar es Salaam, hundreds of supporters stood on their feet, some holding hands, as the competition narrowed to Tanzania and Ecuador. When Jihan was announced the winner, the tension broke into screams, cheers and overwhelming excitement.
For those gathered, the dream had come true. Their candidate had conquered the international stage and a campaign they had supported together had culminated in a historic victory.
The crown may have been won in Bangkok, but the story of unity was written across Tanzania.
President Samia Suluhu Hassan was among the first to congratulate Jihan, praising her for representing the country successfully and inspiring a new generation of young people to believe in their abilities.
“I congratulate you my daughter, Jihan Dimack, for proudly flying the national flag and win Miss Grand International 2026,” the President said.
She described the victory as a source of national pride and an illustration of what the nation could achieve when they united and worked together.
The President also said Jihan’s achievement should encourage young people, particularly girls, to believe in themselves, dare to pursue their ambitions and nurture their talents.
Her message reflected the broader significance of the campaign, which had drawn support from beyond the traditional beauty pageant audience. For many Tanzanians, Jihan’s journey became an opportunity to contribute to a shared national ambition, whether through voting, encouraging others to participate or spreading the campaign online.
The mobilisation was particularly visible on social media, where Jihan’s name repeatedly appeared in posts, comments and appeals for support as the final approached.
Celebrities and influencers helped carry the campaign beyond digital platforms, taking the message into the streets of Dar es Salaam and encouraging more people to participate.
Among those who supported the campaign were Jennifer Bilikwiza, popularly known as Niffer and Vincent Njau, known as Kiredio. Their involvement, alongside that of other public figures and supporters, helped sustain public attention as Tanzania pursued a historic first.
The campaign demonstrated how social media could become more than a space for entertainment and conversation. In Jihan’s case, it became a rallying point where people could share information, encourage participation and direct collective attention towards a common goal.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports Gerson Msigwa acknowledged the contribution of those who had stood behind Jihan throughout the competition.
“Tanzanians have won, Africans have won, all those who love Tanzania have won. Thank you, Jihan Dimack,” he wrote on Instagram.
He thanked supporters who had remained committed to the campaign, singling out Niffer for her contribution.
The collective excitement was not confined to Dar es Salaam.
In Mwanza, hundreds gathered at Malaika Beach Resort to watch the grand finale on a big screen, sharing the anticipation as the competition reached its decisive moments.
When the announcement came, the celebration extended beyond the viewing gathering. On the following day, supporters took part in a celebratory jog in honour of Jihan, showing that the excitement had continued well after the crown was placed on her head.
The gathering and the jog were further expressions of public affection for the beauty queen and the pride her achievement had inspired. They also showed how a competition taking place abroad could bring people together in their own communities.
For beauty pageant analyst Sebastian Mallya, the scale of the mobilisation marked a significant development in Tanzania’s engagement with international pageantry.
Mallya said many Tanzanians had initially been unfamiliar with the voting process, making it challenging to persuade them to participate.
The involvement of prominent influencers helped bring greater attention to the campaign and encouraged more people to take part. He explained that Miss Grand International involved more than physical beauty, with public engagement and business also forming part of the competition’s wider appeal.
The participation of Tanzanians in online engagement and voting, he said, helped raise the country’s visibility and demonstrate the level of support behind Jihan.
According to Mallya, there had been moments when the campaign appeared to be losing momentum, but the involvement of influential public figures helped revive enthusiasm and encourage wider participation.
He said the experience showed how a shared objective, supported by effective communication, could mobilise people who might otherwise have remained on the sidelines.
The significance of the victory also resonated beyond Tanzania.
Miss Grand International announced Jihan’s triumph on its Instagram page with the words: “This time for Africa. This time for Tanzania.”
The organisation described her victory as the beginning of a new chapter in the competition’s history, celebrating her as the first African queen to wear the Miss Grand International crown.
International personality Omar Harfouch also congratulated Jihan through an Instagram Story, praising the achievement as a source of pride for the African continent.
“Africa is growing up and the whole world is watching!” he wrote.
“Tonight, Tanzania shines brightly and the African continent sparkles with her!”
At home, singer Vanessa Mdee used the moment to reflect on the power of collective action, urging Tanzanians to recognise what they could achieve by standing together rather than working against one another.
She also spoke warmly about Jihan’s character, describing her as humble, kindhearted and patient and expressed happiness at seeing someone she admired reach such a milestone.

For Mdee, the achievement was a reminder that unity could produce meaningful results when people directed their energy towards a common purpose.
Her reflections added a personal dimension to a campaign that had been driven by public mobilisation. Beyond the votes and online attention, the victory was also about the relationships, encouragement and belief that had sustained Jihan’s supporters.
