Ford Australia has issued an urgent recall for thousands of vehicles over fire fears.
The US car manufacturer issued the recall on Friday after a manufacturing defect was found to impact the fuel tank strap, with the strap at risk of dislodging mid-drive.
“Due to a manufacturing defect, the fuel tank strap may not have been adequately secured to the frame rail and could detach from the vehicle while driving,” the company says in its recall notice.
“This could cause fuel to leak and, in the presence of an external ignition source, result in a vehicle fire.”
The car giant warns that a fire sparking from the vehicle could “increase the risk of injury and death” to both those inside the vehicle and other users.
The recall also warns a vehicle fire could cause damage to nearby properties.

The recall affects 3745 Ford F-150 vehicles manufactured between 2023 and 2026.
Mechanical work to fix the issue is being offered by Ford, with owners of impacted vehicles urged to contact their dealership.
“(Impacted owners) should contact an authorised Ford dealer to arrange inspection and repair, free of charge,” it said.

The recall is just the latest in a string of issues with the Ford model since its Australian release in 2023.
Thirteen recall issues for Ford F-150s have been launched by the car giant across the nation in the last four years, with several manufacturing issues causing non-compliant lighting, issues with steering wheel, and non-compliant emergency breaking.
In addition to the slew of recalls, Ford Australia has also issued four stop-sales for the vehicles since 2023.
