Bucks’ Myles Turner shares eye-opening take on role amid post-Giannis era appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Myles Turner is making a habit out of involving himself in closing chapters. Last season, he burned his bridges with the Indiana Pacers, declaring his 10-year tenure with them a concluded chapter of his career after signing a four-year, $108 million contract with the Milwaukee Bucks. Things then changed rather quickly for the Bucks, as Giannis Antetokounmpo forced his way out and promptly received his much-desired move to the Miami Heat — leaving Milwaukee in a rebuilding state.
Turner has now gone from a team that was one win away from winning the NBA championship, to a team with playoff aspirations, to a young squad that will be pleased with itself if it even makes the play-in tournament. It’s not even clear if Turner will be starting for the Bucks throughout this upcoming season considering that they have young, up-and-coming center Kel’el Ware who could push Turner down the depth chart.
But at the end of the day, Turner is embracing his role as a veteran who can help steer this young Bucks team in the right direction.

“I got the most years on this team, just using my voice, using my experience to kinda lead this charge, more than anything,” Turner said, via Cameron Ezeir of CBS 58. “The leadership role is something that I’ve been tasked with ever since the summer time. Just coming in every single day, just being a consummate professional. Being the guy I am, first one to show up and last one off the floor.”
Myles Turner is back for his second year with the #Bucks and he understands what his role needs to be this year.

Turner might be taking on the leadership role behind the scenes, but he also must be raring to redeem himself and show everyone that he’s still got it — especially when many fans believe that his level of production last season was not commensurate to the price the Bucks paid to bring him in, which included waiving and stretching Damian Lillard’s contract.
He put up just 11.9 points per contest, his worst tally since his rookie season, and he looked mostly disengaged as he struggled to navigate the transition to a new team. But this new season is his chance for a major reset.
