PETALING JAYA: Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari says he will review the state government’s planned cooperation with Bersatu following the deregistration of Perikatan Nasional (PN), but insists the arrangement is with Bersatu and not PN.
Speaking to reporters in Shah Alam, he said the position of the cooperation would be decided "in a day or two".
"We are not sure (about PN's status). I need to check first. Perhaps in a day or two, we will determine the status of the cooperation with Bersatu," he was quoted as saying by Astro Awani.
"As for the cancellation of PN's registration, that is an internal problem which they must resolve themselves. Because our plan is with Bersatu, not PN."
Amirudin, a PKR vice-president, said the agreement between the state government and Bersatu is expected to be signed next week, subject to confirmation.
"I will have to wait for confirmation first, perhaps after the 25th or 26th," he said.
The Selangor government has been negotiating a pact with Bersatu in the hope of sealing it before the state budget is tabled in November.
The proposed deal comes amid growing tensions between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) in Selangor, as well as strain within PN, where PAS has emerged as the dominant partner.
The 56-member Selangor assembly comprises 32 assemblymen from PH, 11 from Bersatu, 10 from PAS, two from BN and one independent.
A deal with Bersatu would give Amirudin the support of more than two-thirds of the assembly.
The Registrar of Societies (RoS) deregistered PN today after finding that the coalition's response to a show-cause notice failed to justify retaining its registration.
After examining the documents and explanations provided by PN on Oct 12, the RoS found that PN failed to rebut the grounds for revoking its registration.
PN subsequently said it would challenge the deregistration and seek a stay of the move.
