Former First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa had undergone an angiogram yesterday morning to assess her condition and identify any blockages, Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Dr Nalinda Jayatissa said.
Addressing the post-Cabinet media briefing last evening, Dr Jayatissa said a medical board would examine the test results and decide on the appropriate course of treatment.
“No surgery was performed at that point. Only an angiogram was carried out,” he said.
The medical board would determine whether Rajapaksa requires coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), the insertion of a stent or another form of treatment, the Minister said.
Acknowledging the long waiting lists for both bypass surgery and stent procedures, Dr Jayatissa said the Colombo National Hospital would arrange the necessary treatment without delay, based on the medical board’s recommendations and taking the circumstances into consideration.
