by Chris Bowie-Donayre

Off to an undefeated 12-0 start to the season, Maryland field hockey has officially claimed the No. 1 spot in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll, a feat that had not achieved by the team since 2013.

At this point in the season, the Maryland field hockey team has defeated four ranked opponents: No. 18 Michigan, No. 9 Princeton, No. 8 Duke and No. 6 Wake Forest.

A significant piece to Maryland’s success has been forward Maci Bradford, who has recorded eighteen points in eleven appearances and has a shooting percentage of .267. She was recognized as the Big Ten’s offensive player of the week.

Maryland now looks forward to the upcoming weekend where it will face Big Ten opponents Michigan State and Ohio State in College Park.

Looking beyond this weekend, Maryland will face three more ranked teams before the Big Ten Tournament in November: No. 2 Northwestern, No. 11 Indiana and No. 6 Iowa.
