Bears’ perfect Riq Woolen trade offer to Eagles before NFL trade deadline appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Chicago Bears should send the Philadelphia Eagles a 2027 fourth-round pick for Riq Woolen before the November 10 NFL trade deadline. At 4-2, Chicago has a chance to strengthen its playoff position, but inconsistent outside coverage threatens to undermine that opportunity.
Woolen would address a specific weakness rather than serve as a luxury addition. Defensive coordinator Dennis Allen wants corners who can handle isolated assignments, and the Bears have not received dependable enough performances from their perimeter starters.
A modest investment would give Chicago another starting option while allowing Philadelphia to turn an expiring contract into an immediate draft asset.

Why Woolen fits what the Bears need
Chicago’s problems became especially visible against Green Bay in Week 5. Christian Watson and Matthew Golden combined for 266 receiving yards, exposing a secondary that struggled to stay attached to receivers and prevent damaging completions.
Jaylon Johnson’s established reputation has not insulated him from a difficult season, while Tyrique Stevenson has also struggled. The Bears cannot build their deadline strategy around assuming both players will suddenly return to their best.
Kyler Gordon’s activation from the physically unable to perform list helps the nickel position. It does not eliminate the need for another outside corner, particularly when Chicago wants to preserve flexibility across its secondary.
Woolen offers an intriguing answer because his best attributes align with straightforward man-coverage responsibilities. His length, recovery speed and ability to match receivers downfield could give Allen more confidence when sending pressure or allocating safety help elsewhere.
The Bears would not need to immediately reorganize every role. They could introduce Woolen through selected matchups, then expand his workload as he becomes comfortable with the terminology and communication requirements.
His production provides a reasonable foundation. Woolen has started all six games for Philadelphia this season, recording 24 tackles, four passes defended and a forced fumble. He brings experience that could help Chicago avoid relying exclusively on developmental solutions.
There is a significant caveat: penalties. Woolen’s tendency to draw flags can turn successful coverage into extended possessions. Chicago would need to emphasize disciplined contact and consistent technique rather than treating his athletic ability as permission to play recklessly.
Why Philadelphia should take the draft capital
The Eagles signed Woolen for one season, creating a decision about whether his remaining games are worth more than a guaranteed draft selection. If Philadelphia prioritizes its future roster, moving a short-term starter becomes defensible.
The original appeal included the possibility of receiving compensatory draft value after Woolen departed in free agency. A trade would replace that uncertain process with a specific asset, avoiding dependence on future signings and departures.
Philadelphia would lose a starting corner, so the immediate defensive cost deserves acknowledgment. However, keeping every veteran through a disappointing season can also mean missing opportunities to replenish affordable depth.
A fourth-rounder gives the Eagles options. They could draft a contributor, package the selection to move around the board or include it in another transaction.
The trade offer Chicago should make
Ryan Poles should pursue this straightforward package:
Bears receive:
- CB Riq Woolen
Eagles receive:
- Chicago’s 2027 fourth-round draft pick
This is a sensible ceiling for a talented player approaching free agency. Chicago would preserve its premium selections while adding help at a position opponents have already targeted.
The Bears should not confuse upside with certainty. Woolen would still require coaching, and his arrival would not erase every defensive weakness. At a fourth-round price, however, the potential improvement justifies the investment for a team positioned to compete now.
