Major League Baseball's Los Angeles Dodgers were swept by the Milwaukee Brewers, ending their bid for a third consecutive World Series title. Milwaukee reached the World Series for the first time in 44 years.
The Dodgers lost 6-4 to the Brewers on the 16th, Korea time, in Game 4 of the National League Championship Series, a best-of-seven, at Uniqlo Field at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. Los Angeles became the fifth team in history to attempt a third straight World Series title but collapsed in a stunning four-game sweep.
Milwaukee, the National League champion, advanced to the World Series for the first time since 1982. The Brewers, who have never won the title, are chasing their first championship since the franchise was founded in 1969. Milwaukee also repaid in full, one year later, the debt from last season's NLCS, when the Dodgers swept them in four games.
The Dodgers seized the early momentum. In the second inning, with runners on first and third and one out, Andy Pages drove in the first run with a single to center. Superstar Shohei Ohtani then hit a three-run homer over right-center to put Los Angeles ahead 4-0.
Milwaukee was undeterred. Jake Bauers drove in two runs with a double in the fourth, and in the fifth, David Hamilton's RBI single and a bases-loaded walk to Bauers tied the game at 4-4. Garrett Mitchell's solo shot over center gave the Brewers the lead in the sixth, and Hamilton added a solo homer over right-center in the ninth to seal it.
With the Dodgers eliminated, this year's World Series champion will be a small-market team for the first time since the Kansas City Royals in 2015, an 11-year gap.
The Cleveland Guardians and Tampa Bay Rays, who are facing off in the American League Championship Series, a best-of-seven, are also small-market clubs that pursue the same low-cost, high-efficiency approach as Milwaukee.
Milwaukee will host the ALCS winner for Game 1 of the World Series on the 24th at American Family Field in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Cleveland rallied past Tampa Bay 3-2 in Game 3 of the ALCS on the same day at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio, taking a 2-1 series lead.
