GWM Malaysia has opened bookings for the new WEY G9 Hi4 HEV, giving its luxury MPV a second electrified powertrain option alongside the existing plug-in hybrid.

Unlike the existing PHEV, the new HEV does away with the need for external charging. Its Hi4 hybrid system combines a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine with two electric motors, a four-speed dedicated hybrid transmission, and a 1.67kWh battery.
Combined output stands at 358PS and 782Nm, with power sent through GWM’s Hybrid Intelligent 4WD system. Despite producing less outright power than the PHEV, the HEV actually develops more torque.
For comparison, the WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV pairs a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine with two electric motors and a four-speed DHT, producing 442PS and 642Nm.
Its much larger 44.2kWh battery provides up to 170km of electric-only range and more than 1,000km of combined range under the NEDC cycle. The PHEV is currently priced at RM269,800 in Malaysia.
The addition of the HEV effectively gives buyers a choice between two different approaches to the same luxury MPV.
The PHEV can cover a substantial portion of daily driving on electric power if it is regularly plugged in, while the HEV should better suit owners who want hybrid efficiency without having to charge at home or rely on public charging infrastructure.
GWM Malaysia has not yet released the full equipment list for the HEV, although the company says it will retain the WEY G9’s focus on comfort, technology, and safety.
The current PHEV is locally assembled at EP Manufacturing’s plant in Pegoh, Melaka, but GWM has yet to confirm whether the HEV will follow the same CKD arrangement.
The WEY G9 has become one of GWM Malaysia’s stronger-performing models since the PHEV was launched in January, with 1,932 units registered between February and September 2026 according to JPJ registration data. GWM itself describes the model as Malaysia’s top-selling luxury MPV.
Pricing, final specifications, and further launch details for the WEY G9 Hi4 HEV are expected to be announced closer to its official introduction.
