US Vice President JD Vance is expected to visit Athens in mid-February to attend the first international Breitbart Summit, organised by the American news outlet Breitbart News Network, according to information cited by Greek newspaper Ta Nea.
The summit will take place at the Hotel Grande Bretagne in central Athens and focus on “Western Alliances and Strategic Convergence”, with discussions expected to examine the future of transatlantic relations and cooperation among Western allies amid a changing international environment.
Vance has accepted an invitation from Breitbart News Network to attend the event, which organisers intend to establish as a meeting point for political and business leaders from the United States and Europe.
US officials and business leaders expected in Athens
The summit is also expected to attract US senators, members of the House of Representatives, White House advisers and prominent American business figures.
The event comes as Greece and the United States seek to intensify bilateral contacts and strengthen coordination on shared security challenges in an increasingly unstable international environment.
The summit’s central theme echoes remarks by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio during his speech at the Pnyx in Athens, where he outlined the challenges facing the Western world and the choices confronting its allies.
Breitbart’s links to the Trump administration
Matthew Boyle, Breitbart’s Washington bureau chief, is spearheading the summit. He has developed a strong interest in Greek affairs and has interviewed Greek political figures, including Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
Boyle has also used the outlet to highlight Greek positions in Washington. The report notes that President Donald Trump and members of his administration follow Breitbart’s coverage and that Trump has publicly commented on interviews published by the outlet.
Breitbart describes itself as a prominent conservative American news organisation with access to senior figures in the Trump administration. Its events regularly feature US officials, including Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, Energy Secretary Chris Wright, Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins and Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, as well as Vice President Vance.
Boyle also has a prominent relationship with the US vice president. According to the report, Vance has described him as “the journalist with the best sources in Washington”.
Boyle’s reporting has included exclusive interviews with Trump, international leaders, including Mitsotakis, and representatives of international organisations. He has also criticised Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s policies and the position of US Ambassador to Turkey Tom Barrack, while highlighting Greek and Cypriot positions in Washington.
Greece’s role in transatlantic cooperation
Organisers say the Athens summit aims to encourage dialogue on the cohesion of Western alliances and the prospects for closer strategic coordination between Europe and the United States.
By hosting the first international edition of the summit, Greece will seek to highlight its role in transatlantic cooperation.
