Cyber Awareness Month 2026: 7 Tips to Secure Your Online Accounts
১৬/১০/২০২৬
Cyber Awareness Month 2026
Cyber Awareness Month 2026 encourages people to adopt safer online habits. The campaign highlights password security, fraud prevention, and protection against growing cyber threats. Users can reduce risks by following basic security steps, checking account activity regularly, and staying alert to suspicious messages, links, and login requests.
CERT-In's Security Advice
The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) promotes stronger digital security practices. Its advice highlights multi-factor authentication as an important way to protect online accounts. Users should follow official cybersecurity guidance, keep devices updated, and report suspicious activity to the appropriate authorities to reduce the risk of account compromise.
Multi-Factor Authentication Explained
Multi-factor authentication (MFA) adds another verification step when users sign in to an account. It may require a password alongside an authentication app code, security key, or biometric check. This extra layer makes unauthorised access harder, even when cybercriminals obtain a user's password through phishing or data breaches.
Stronger Protection Against Stolen Passwords
Passwords alone may not provide enough protection against modern cyberattacks. Criminals can steal login details through fake websites, malicious software, and data leaks. MFA adds another barrier to account access, reducing the chances of misuse. Users should enable it wherever available, especially for email, banking, and social media accounts.
Choose Secure Authentication Methods
Authentication apps and hardware security keys can provide stronger protection than SMS-based verification in many situations. Users should choose methods supported by their service providers and secure their recovery options. They must never share one-time passwords, verification codes, or approval requests with unknown callers or suspicious websites.
Secure Email and Social Media Accounts
Email accounts deserve particular attention because they often control password resets for other services. Users should enable MFA on primary email, banking, cloud storage, and social media accounts. They should review active sessions, remove unknown devices, update recovery details, and sign out from devices they no longer use.
Build Safer Digital Habits
Cybersecurity requires more than enabling MFA. Users should install software updates, use unique passwords, avoid suspicious links, and check website addresses before entering personal details. Password managers can help create and store strong passwords. Regular account reviews and awareness of phishing tactics can further reduce exposure to online threats.
