Bollywood actor Imran Khan has been reportedly asked to leave India by October 28 for taking a part in the recent solidarity protests demanding Chief Election Commission Gyanesh Kumar's resignation at Mumbai's August Kranti Maidan.
The actor was among the ones who stood in support demanding for the resignation CEC over the alleged discrepancies led from the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, that eliminated roughly 13 crore (130 million) voter entries across country.
Khan was accompanied by his girlfriend Lekha Washington and cousin Zayn Marie at the protest. Reports suggest that as the 43-year-old actor, who holds an US citizenship, his participation in an Indian origin protest is a violation of Immigration act.
However, The Telegraph Online hasn't confirmed whether Khan does not hold an Indian citizenship.
On October 10, Imran Khan was detained by Mumbai Police. As per media reports, the actor was dragged by the police force along with other protesters into a police van.
The actor later took to his Instagram handle, poking fun with a satirical post.
"Apparently I am going for a drive," the Delhi Belly actor wrote on Instagram alongside a selfie clicked inside a police van.
However, soon after pictures of Khan being detained by the police surfaced online, his fans couldn't stop discussing lauding the actor and tagging as the 'Pookie turned Krantikari'.
Before the detention, Khan told ANI that he is supporting the protest as a citizen of the nation. "I don't have demands. I am here as a citizen, as someone who lives in this city. I am here to see why freedom of movement is being restricted—why people's voices are being suppressed. That is why I am here. I am not in a position to make demands of anyone. Nor am I part of any organisation. I am just here as a representative," he said.
