Political movements have a crucial responsibility to safeguard democracy, secularism, constitutional values and social justice, said Panakkad Syed Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal, president of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML). He was inaugurating the two-day Leaders’ Meet organised by the IUML Thrissur district committee at Nakshatra Emerald hotel in Guruvayur on Sunday.
Mr. Thangal said political movements must strengthen their grassroots engagement by critically assessing the prevailing political climate and emerging social challenges. They should act with greater responsibility to protect constitutional values, uphold social justice and preserve pluralism, he said. He stressed the need to intensify efforts to foster mutual trust and harmony among different religious and social communities.
Political organisations must develop an inclusive and participatory approach by bringing young people, women and diverse social groups into their activities. They should adapt their organisational structures to changing times, improve their efficiency and prioritise initiatives that keep them closely connected with the people, he added. District president C.A. Mohammed Rasheed presided over the meeting.
