Colombo, Oct. 19 (Daily Mirror) - Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne has endorsed the certificate on the Anti-Corruption (Amendment) Bill, the Parliament Communications Department said.
The Bill was presented to Parliament for its First Reading on August 19, 2026, by Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education Dr. Harini Amarasuriya.
The Second Reading debate was held on October 8, 2026, after which the Bill was passed with amendments without a division.
The legislation seeks to address legal, interpretative, administrative and technical issues identified in implementing the Anti-Corruption Act, No. 9 of 2023.
It also aims to resolve inconsistencies between the Sinhala and English versions of the Act, overcome challenges in investigating and prosecuting corruption offences, improve the administrative functions of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC), and streamline the submission of asset and liability declarations through a centralised electronic system.
The amendments are expected to strengthen Sri Lanka’s existing legal and institutional framework for combating corruption and ensure the effective, transparent and accountable implementation of the law.
Following the Speaker’s endorsement, the Bill has been enacted as the Anti-Corruption (Amendment) Act, No. 25 of 2026.
