RPCS3 has announced a big development for a fan-favorite Sony PlayStation 3 exclusive game. The RPCS3 team has finally managed to fix random crashes that were affecting a classic PS3 action-adventure role-playing title.
It has taken the RPCS3 team more than a decade of serious effort to make RPCS3 the world’s premier Sony PlayStation 3 emulator. Gone are the days when RPCS3 couldn’t run PS3 exclusive games properly. You can now play a vast majority of PS3 games, including first-party Sony exclusives, on your PC without any issues. Moreover, the RPCS3 team is quickly fixing the few games that remain unplayable. The latest example of this is 3D Dot Game Heroes.
The RPCS3 team announced on X that the team has finally managed to fix random crashes in 3D Dot Game Heroes. The team explained that crashes were caused by a “heap corruption” issue. Developer Yahfz was able to fix this by enforcing a “PPU Event Wake-Up Delay”.
With random crashes now fixed, the RPCS3 database mentions no known issues for 3D Dot Game Heroes. This means that the game is currently fully playable on PCs without any major game-breaking bugs. But the RPCS3 team hasn’t put 3D Dot Game Heroes on the “Playable” list, which usually points to insufficient performance on a system utilizing RPCS3’s recommended hardware.
That said, you may not have to worry about performance in 3D Dot Game Heroes if you have a powerful CPU like the Ryzen 7 9800X3D. If you do, definitely give the game a go, as it is a fan-favorite title that pays homage to old-school pixelated action-adventure role-playing games like Zelda.
While the game only has an above-average 77 Metacritic critic score, it has a pretty good user score of 8.1. Users like the title’s side quests, puzzles, etc.
