DAEJEON — The Korea Minting, Security Printing and ID Card Operating Corp. (KOMSCO) said on the 21st that it will release card-type gold and silver medals for the TVING original series "The Legendary Mess Cook" on the 22nd, the first product in its "K-Drama Awards Collection" developed with Studio Dragon.
The collection aims to capture the artistic achievements and cultural impact of Korean dramas drawing attention at home and abroad in the form of commemorative medals.
"The Legendary Mess Cook," produced by Studio Dragon, is based on the popular Naver Webtoon of the same name. It follows a protagonist who enlists as a military cook and the story that unfolds within the confines of army life. The series has established itself as a hit since its release in the first half of this year.
The drama drew the most paid subscribers within a week of release among series launched on TVING over the past three years. Views of the original webtoon jumped 61-fold from previous levels after the series premiered. At the 5th Blue Dragon Series Awards, it won three honors: Best Drama, Best Supporting Actor and Most Popular OST.
The medals are being released under a formal licensing agreement with Studio Dragon and come in two versions. Both the card-type gold medal (Au999, 1 gram) and the card-type silver medal (Ag999, 5 grams) feature designs based on the smile badge and cook's hat that symbolize protagonist Kang Sung-jae, played by actor Park Ji-hoon. The gold medal case uses the drama's official poster image, while the silver medal case draws on the "quest status window," a key visual device in the series.
"We will continue to introduce a range of new cultural products by combining various K-content with KOMSCO's technology," said Sung Chang-hoon, president of KOMSCO.
