Urzila Carlson Adds Cape Town Show on 28 July 2027

SOUTH AFRICA · CAPE TOWN COMEDY

A South African-born comedy star sold out her first home shows nine months early. Two new nights have now been added.

Urzila Carlson has added a Cape Town show on Wednesday, 28 July 2027, at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC). Promoter Big Concerts also added a Johannesburg show on Sunday, 1 August 2027, at the Teatro, Montecasino.

The original Cape Town nights on 29 and 30 July and the Johannesburg night on 31 July are sold out. For US fans of her Netflix work, the two new dates are the remaining way in.

Who Urzila Carlson Is

Urzila Carlson is a South African-born comedian whom Big Concerts calls one of the biggest comedy stars in Australia and New Zealand. Her South African tour is billed simply as Urzila Carlson, Live in South Africa.

American audiences know her best from the Netflix comedy film Kinda Pregnant, released in 2025. She starred in it with Amy Schumer and Will Forte.

Big Concerts says the film was viewed 25.1 million times in its first week. Her own hour-long Netflix stand-up special, Overqualified Loser, was released worldwide in 2020.

She made her Netflix debut in 2019 in an international stand-up series. That same year, Big Concerts says, she became the highest-selling comedian in the Melbourne International Comedy Festival’s history.

The promoter lists four People’s Choice Awards from that festival, in 2019, 2022, 2023 and 2025. It also credits her with six New Zealand Comedy Guild awards for Best Female Comedian.

Television viewers have seen her on Taskmaster NZ, the British panel show QI and Australia’s Have You Been Paying Attention? She also hosts the podcast That’s Enough Already and wrote the memoir Rolling With the Punchlines.

The Five Shows and What Is Sold Out

The tour now runs five nights over five days, three in Cape Town and two in Johannesburg. Big Concerts marks the Wednesday and Sunday nights as new dates added.

• Wednesday, 28 July 2027: CTICC Auditorium 2, Cape Town (new date)
• Thursday, 29 July 2027: CTICC Auditorium 2, Cape Town (sold out)
• Friday, 30 July 2027: CTICC Auditorium 2, Cape Town (sold out)
• Saturday, 31 July 2027: Teatro, Montecasino, Johannesburg (sold out)
• Sunday, 1 August 2027: Teatro, Montecasino, Johannesburg (new date)

General sale opened on Friday, 7 August 2026, after presales for Mastercard holders and the Big Concerts fan club. Tickets for the new Wednesday show are on sale, while the new Sunday show is listed as on sale soon.

That pace matters for planning a trip around a show. Selling out three nights about a year ahead suggests the new dates could also go quickly.

Tickets and How to Buy Safely

Big Concerts says tickets are on sale now from Ticketmaster South Africa, at ticketmaster.co.za. That is the only official seller named for the tour.

The promoter warns against Viagogo and other secondary sites, saying their buyers will be denied entry without a refund. Buy directly from Ticketmaster, even if a resale listing looks easier.

The event pages do not show ticket prices, so none are quoted here. Check the price, seat and booking fees on Ticketmaster before you pay.

The shows are for ages 16 and over, and the promoter flags adult content. Filming and flash photography are not allowed, so plan to keep your phone away.

The Venues and How to Get There

The CTICC stands at Convention Square on Lower Long Street, at the edge of central Cape Town. Its Auditorium 2 hosts all three Cape Town nights.

The Teatro is the main theatre at Montecasino, an entertainment complex in northern Johannesburg. It hosts the sold-out Saturday show and the new Sunday show.

For both venues, the State Department advises reputable dispatched taxis, hotel cabs or rideshares that share trip details. Check the car’s plate and the driver’s name before you get in.

The department says minibus taxis are often unlicensed and unsafe, and its staff may not use them. It also bars its staff from the Metrorail commuter trains.

Late July is winter in South Africa, and Cape Town nights are often cold and wet. Bring a warm layer and allow extra time for traffic in the rain.

Tips for US and Foreign Visitors

US citizens do not need a visa for stays under 90 days, the State Department says. Your passport must have two consecutive blank visa pages, or you will be denied entry.

The passport must also stay valid for 30 days after you leave South Africa. Travellers arriving from a yellow fever risk country need proof of vaccination.

The department rates South Africa at Level 2, Exercise Increased Caution, citing crime, terrorism, unrest and kidnapping. It says violent crime is more common in big city centres, especially after dark.

In Johannesburg, it warns, some crime victims have been followed from OR Tambo airport to their hotel. Do not walk alone at night, and keep phones and jewellery out of sight.

The department also warns that card skimming at ATMs is common. Visitors may bring in up to ZAR 25,000 (about US$1,516) in local cash, at 16.49 per dollar from open.er-api.com.

What It Means for You

For a US fan, these shows are a chance to see a Netflix comedy star in the country of her birth. With three nights already gone, the Wednesday and Sunday dates are the realistic options.

South Africa runs six hours ahead of US Eastern in July, so each 8:00 p.m. show starts at 2:00 p.m. Eastern. Expats in Cape Town can book the Wednesday show now, and Johannesburg fans should watch for the Sunday release.

What Is Not Known

Big Concerts has not published ticket prices or how many seats remain for the new nights. It has also not said when tickets for the new Sunday show go on sale.

No opening act or show title for the South African dates has been announced. It is also not known whether more dates or other cities will be added.

What Comes Next

Big Concerts says Carlson tours Australia, the United Kingdom and Ireland in 2026 with her new show, Fatty on a Yacht. The promoter also says she will star in a new TV comedy series called URZILA.

Any change to dates, times or venues would come through Big Concerts and Ticketmaster. Ticket holders should watch their email in the weeks before the shows.
