The presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Seyi Makinde, has urged Nigerians to consider allowing him to serve the remaining four years of the South-West’s expected eight-year tenure in the presidency.
Makinde made the appeal on Thursday during the party’s town hall meeting in Akure, Ondo State, as political parties prepare for the 2027 general election.
President Bola Tinubu, who is from Lagos State in the South-West, is seeking re-election after completing his first four-year term.
Makinde said voters across the country would ultimately determine whether the region should retain the presidency for another four years.
“The rest of Nigeria will choose between if the South-West should complete its eight years. And if the answer is yes, allow Seyi to complete the remaining four years through a transitional government of national unity,” he said.
The Oyo State governor also called on APM members in the South-West to intensify their campaign efforts ahead of the election, urging them to engage voters directly rather than rely mainly on posters and billboards.
He advised party members to visit communities and households to explain the party’s proposed policies and persuade residents to support its candidate.
Makinde expressed confidence that the campaign would receive a positive response, arguing that economic hardship had increased Nigerians’ desire for a change in the country’s direction.

“What I want from the South-West, go door-to-door, go to every area, and it’s not an issue that somebody did billboards or they did posters. Take your fliers and go door-to-door, you will be well received because everybody is hungry,” he said.
He further urged party members to promote the APM’s Reset Agenda, saying Nigerians were looking for a fresh approach to governance.
“Nigerians want a reset, so go and meet them, they will receive you, convert them and explain the Reset Agenda to them,” Makinde added.
