Best meme coins to buy now (October 2026): 7 compared

The meme coin market is worth about $30 billion, and three coins hold most of it. For everything else the odds are poor: Bitquery data reported by crypto.news shows 79% of Pump.fun tokens traded only on their launch day. This guide compares four established coins, one launchpad token and two newer names, so you can see what each one is and what to check first.

Short answer: Dogecoin, Shiba Inu and Pepe are the largest and most liquid names. Pump.fun’s token tracks the launch market. MemeToro and Pudgy Penguins are newer, high risk/reward picks.

Meme coins compared: market data as of Oct. 22, 2026

1. MemeToro ($MT): the AI launchpad in presale

MemeToro ($MT) is an open-source AI memecoin launchpad on BNB Chain. Its agent scans social media, communities and the news for trends, proposes a concept and publishes why. It is designed to publish nothing when no idea qualifies. Launches are meant to use fixed-rate rounds with one price for every contributor, no pre-allocation and funds held in an escrow contract, not by the AI.

Check: about 29% of the maximum supply is not yet circulating, and a brand-led token depends on one team’s roadmap.

What is built: the code is public under an MIT license at, and the first escrow release contains 1,373 lines of Solidity across 17 files, per crypto.news. The $MT token contract has been audited by Coinsult, SolidProof and BlockSAFU. A BNB testnet round using tBNB, a test token without value, is open at https://memetoro.com/memecoin, which is the lowest-risk way to see how a launch round works. $MT has a preview page on CoinMarketCap with no trading data yet.

What is not: the AI agent page is marked coming soon, the launch contracts are unaudited within BSC testnet, no end-to-end live launch has happened, only testnet launches with open source code.

The $MT presale is at Stage 9 at $0.00649, with the next stage at a higher price. Of 1.2 billion tokens, 71% go to the public sale and 2% to the team, and presale purchases are not vested.

The contract on BNB Smart Chain is 0x44412181b7eb66bff974c0a9a9e908e5bba8cfff, and the tokenomics are at https://memetoro.com/tokenomics.

2. Dogecoin (DOGE): the category’s anchor

Dogecoin is the largest meme coin at about $12.4 billion, with a price near $0.079 on Oct. 22. It was near $14.7 billion on Oct. 6, so it has fallen about 15% in two weeks. The DogeOS public testnet opened on Sept. 30 and uses DOGE as a fee token, but crypto.news reporting notes that testnet activity is not evidence of paying users and that no mainnet date is confirmed. Bitwise also planned to close its Dogecoin ETF, with final trading expected Oct. 14.

Check: size and liquidity are its strength, but a large cap can still fall quickly.

3. Shiba Inu (SHIB): bigger than most, with open questions

Shiba Inu sits near $3.0 billion. A Solana listing through Sunrise arrived in early October, according to crypto.news. The same reporting flags an unresolved liability from a September 2025 Shibarium bridge incident, with recovery claims described as ongoing. Searches for “shiba inu price” are the highest of any coin in this list at about 60,500 a month in the US, which shows how much attention it draws.

Check: whether the bridge issue is resolved, and treat a claim NFT as not proof of repayment.

4. Pepe (PEPE): liquidity and attention

Pepe is near $1.9 billion, with about $350 million traded in 24 hours, which is roughly 18% of its market cap, a high turnover among the larger coins. That depth is its appeal, and the rally it showed in the past week is a reminder of its swings. There is no verified October product event, so the price depends on attention. If you are searching for the Pepe coin price, treat it as a trading asset, not a project with a roadmap.

Check: volume can disappear when attention moves on.

5. Bonk (BONK): Solana’s community coin

Bonk is near $270 million. Its site reports more than 1.1 million holders and over 400 integrations, though crypto.news questions whether those integrations produce real demand. A July governance attack moved about $20 million from the treasury.

Check: whether integrations lead to usage, and how the treasury is now protected.

6. Pump.fun (PUMP): the launchpad behind most new tokens

Pump.fun’s token is near $2.2 billion, with about $214 million traded in 24 hours. It is the platform behind most of the launches in this market, which is why the Bitquery numbers matter: about 8.98 million of the tokens tracked came from it, and 79% traded only on launch day. A new 0.45% platform fee started on Oct. 17 for wallets without a referral code. Alternative launch models are now appearing, such as the AI launchpad MemeToro covered below.

Check: the token tracks platform activity, not the survival of the coins launched on it.

7. Pudgy Penguins (PENGU): a brand-led coin with a bank listing

Pudgy Penguins began as an NFT collection, and PENGU is its token on Solana. It is near $520 million, with about $125 million traded in 24 hours, roughly 24% of its market cap, and more than 880,000 holders on CoinMarketCap. SoFi added PENGU to its banking app on Oct. 19, according to Crypto Briefing, and the token rose about 9% the next day. It is still about 85% below its all-time high of $0.057 from Dec. 17, 2024. Searches for “pengu coin” reach about 5,400 a month in the US.

Five checks before buying any meme coin

1. Who holds the supply, and how much do the top wallets own?
2. Can the owner mint tokens, change fees or block selling?
3. Are the launch terms published before you buy, as MemeToro’s tokenomics page does, and do they match the contract?
4. Has an independent firm audited the contract, and can you read the report?
5. Is liquidity locked, and can you check it on-chain?
