MONTREAL — The San Jose Sharks needed a win like this.
The Sharks were down 3-1 in the third period and looked dead in the water. They weren’t generating a lot of scoring chances and were being hamstrung by porous defensive play. Canadien fans were piling on, booing Canadian hero Macklin Celebrini. But then, the San Jose captain responded and led his side to a galvanizing 4-3 OT victory.
Celebrini scored twice, Michael Misa netted his first of the season, and Tyler Toffoli put in a brilliant Celebrini pass.
Post-game, Celebrini talked about the boos, Toffoli shared more about Ryan Warsofsky’s fiery second intermission message, Misa discussed the rollercoaster sequence that led to him breaking his slump, and Warsofsky spoke on how proud he was of his team.

Celebrini, on if he heard the boos from the Bell Center crowd:
How could I not? No, I mean, it was great. I’m just really happy we closed that one out.
Celebrini, on if he’s used to boos:
That was the first. That was the first.
Warsofsky gave a fiery message during the second intermission.

The message?
Celebrini: “Get to our game, battle as hard as we can, and leave it all out there.”
And a few other choice words, I bet!
Tyler Toffoli
Toffoli, on San Jose Sharks head coach Warsofsky’s second intermission message:
I think we all knew that we weren’t playing well enough, so obviously he came in and really emphasized that, and obviously whatever he was saying sparked us a little bit.
Toffoli, on Misa breaking his slump:
He’s done some really good things throughout the year. Everybody obviously just thinks about points and all that, but I think he’s been doing a pretty good job, and he’s finding his game. He’s still, it’s just his second year in the league, and he missed a lot of time last year, so he’s definitely going to be relied upon a lot more now with whatever Wenny’s dealing with, and hopefully continues to keep going and keep getting better and stepping up.

Misa, on hitting a post, then scoring his first goal of the season:
I mean, just a little frustrating at the time. I’ve been getting a little snakebit.
I think when I caught [the pass from Kiefer Sherwood], I knew, if I don’t score it, there’s something wrong with me.
Ryan Warsofsky
Warsofsky, on what he said to the San Jose Sharks in the second intermission:
It’s not about me. It’s about the players and just getting them to understand how we need to play.
Warsofsky, on how he feels about his team:
Yeah, extremely proud. Our players care, and just sometimes you have some rough moments and nights, and it gets in between the ears a little bit, and you get off your game, and that’s probably what happened there in the first two periods.
Warsofsky, on the Cole Caulfield goal, and how he wants Jacob Trouba to defend it:
It probably starts, we just didn’t close good enough and get on bodies to stop pucks up, and when you don’t do that against this team, they are going to make you pay offensively. We saw that for two periods. We’re in spots, but we’re not doing the job. We’re in the right spots, so we gotta defend a little bit more urgently in those dangerous areas.
