Rain lashed the district and in the last 24 hours, Virudhunagar town recorded 95 mm rainfall, while the district overall received 444 mm rainfall at 6 a.m. on Friday.
According to WRD officials, many low lying areas in the district were inundated and waterlogging complaints poured in through out the day.
The temple town - Srivilliputtur - was the worst hit as the devotees had a tough time entering the shrine. Yet another major shake up was felt in Sivakasi, where the rain was ‘unwelcome’ as the fireworks production and packaging activity was severely hit.
There was sizable delay in the movement of TNSTC buses from the depot in Virudhunagar Town. Out of 69 buses, 60 moved out with a delay of about an hour or so. The officials could not move out 19 new buses given to the district from the government bus depot.
The Municipal Commissioner and team visited the depot, which was filled with rainwater. There was no way out. Finally, it was decided to break a portion of the compound wall to drain the water out, officials said and added that there was delay in shedding out other buses to long distance destination.
