The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs yesterday (13 October) recommended approval in principle for procuring liquefied natural gas (LNG) from five international suppliers through government-to-government (G2G) and direct procurement methods to help maintain an uninterrupted gas supply in the country.
It was approved to purchase LNG directly from BP Singapore Pte Limited, Sahara Energy Resource Limited and Shell International Trading Middle East Limited FZE, according to a press release issued by Cabinet Division.
The Energy and Mineral Resources Division cited the urgent need to maintain normal gas supplies in the national interest as the basis for the proposed direct procurement, said the press release.
The press release also said that another proposal to procure LNG from Cheniere Marketing International LLP and Trafigura Pte Ltd under a government-to-government (G2G) arrangement in accordance with the Public Procurement Act 2006 and the Public Procurement Rules 2025 was also approved.
However, the proposals did not specify the volumes of LNG to be purchased, contract values or delivery schedules.
