Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — Uzbekistan has welcomed the United Arab Emirates’ decision to nominate UAE Minister of State and former Permanent Representative to the United Nations Lana Zaki Nusseibeh for the post of UN secretary-general, according to a statement by Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The ministry said the appointment of a new UN chief was particularly important for strengthening the organisation’s authority and improving its effectiveness amid growing global challenges.
Uzbekistan believes the next secretary-general should have strong professional qualifications, extensive diplomatic experience and the ability to unite the efforts of member states.
The ministry said these qualities were essential for maintaining international peace and security and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
