‘Still the second option’ – NBA fans call out Jayson Tatum after Paul George’s electric Celtics debut

Paul George was incredible in his debut for the Boston Celtics, but that hasn’t led to the best outcome for Jayson Tatum.

The Boston Celtics surprised the NBA world when they traded Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers in a deal that got them Paul George. The former Clippers man hasn’t been in great form and is also getting up there in age, with many calling him washed when the deal was announced.

Well, George has surprised everybody right back. In his debut for Boston, the 36-year-old exploded for a whopping 38 points. The team lost in the end, in no small part due to PG’s new co-star and his shooting woes. All things considered, it was inevitable that Jayson Tatum would be subjected to some ridicule online.

Jayson Tatum is being roasted for his poor performance after Paul George showed out in Celtics loss

One of the big reasons for the trade was said to be the Celtics needing to choose between Tatum and Brown. Reports and the players’ own actions have suggested that there were definitely some issues between the two Celtics stars.

One of the theories is that Brown was outshining JT too much, he famously won the Finals MVP over Tatum in 2024. Naturally, fans online took the opportunity to roast the 28-year-old after PG13 actively outshone him in the first game of the season.

“Tatum is still the second option even after JB got traded,” one fan said, finding it hilarious. “This is so bad. PG played like this and you still lost. Brad Stevens in shambles,” another observed. “This is Paul George’s team now, Tatum. You are a role player,” a third fan wrote.

“Tatum about to get carried by his “#2″ again,” a fourth fan said. “Tatum ruined him balling out today. Is that Jaylen Brown’s fault too?” a fifth fan asked. “He was the best player on the court today, he was better than Tatum,” a sixth fan claimed.

Tatum had just 13 points on 23 shot attempts during the game. He shot under 30 percent from the field, an abysmal number for a star. JT is still in the process of completely recovering after his big injury, but he needs to prove this is still his team with a massive performance soon.
