The agreement between Southeast Asia's fastest-growing economy and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) abolishes or lowers tariffs on imports of industrial, fishery and agricultural products, among other things.
The agreement was signed in the presence of Vietnam's Supreme Leader To Lam and representatives of the EFTA countries' governments.
Vietnam emphasized in a government statement that the agreement demonstrates the parties' determination to "strengthen the rules-based trading system amid continued volatility in the global economy."
